This Smurfit-Stone mill in Northern Quebec produces pulp destined for the production of different types of cardboard. The company invested more than $250 million to modernize their effluent treatment equipment and paper machines.
Challenge
The objective of Mill Management is to maximize investments in training to ultimately increase mill productivity. There must also be an adequate number of employees on each shift able to repair and restart equipment that is critical to production.
Solution
HUMENG International Inc. implemented a process to identify skills, produce job and employee skill profiles and identify critical equipment and best practices. Transliaisons TL4 was then used to manage all functions related to training. Transliaisons TL4 allows supervisors to:
- produce skill gap analysis
- determine short and long term training needs for each employee
- do succession planning
- assign employees to skill evaluations, training sessions, e-learning activities, etc.
- manage the training budget
- etc.
Gains
When installed on a network, Transliaisons TL4 allows each supervisor to determine the training needs of his employees, follow the progression of each employee and validate that the skills were mastered and transferred to the shop floor. Training investments are targeted only to missing skills.
